Bobby Mitchell: News

September Happenings for my email list - August 28, 2010

Well it’s not quite September yet, but I’m not gonna have much access to the Internet next week cuz I’ll be out on the road. So here is the skinny for the month when cooler weather will be starting to drift down these ways. (hopefully)
Got a few private parties going on but there is no need to talk about them cuz, I’m sorry but you can’t attend’em there Private.
Got one gig open to public out in Leakey TX. yep that close to Mitchell’s Mt.
September 25th: Lala’s Restaurant, I’ll be playing old country classics for the Brunch crowd. Great lil Mexican food restaurant. And that’s about it for the month of Fall. Now Oct. is a different story. I’ll be in the Pasadena area for a couple of gigs at “Willies Restaurant” but I’ll fill ya in about that, in October.
This past month Robert Bonin (my Duo partner) and I had a good time playing JP’s Hop’s House for the Hard Times Soup and Music Kitchen. We played some new old songs we’ve been working on, Classic Rock and Country. The Soup & Music Kitchen goes on every Wed. evening with the “Hard Times Troubadours” (house band) and a special guest each week. So just cuz I ain’t playing there don’t mean you can’t go and enjoy Free Soup and Free Music. I had a good show this past Friday the 27th at the Alvin Opry. I always enjoy playing there. The Alvin Opry Band is Fantastic and makes me sound Fantastic. There was a feller by the name of Heath Spencer Philip and he put on a Great Rockin Show. If you like older Rock and Rockabilly then ya gotta check out this guy if you ever see him playing in a joint near you. It’ll be worth the time and money.

That’s about it for now. If anything else pops up, I’ll let ya know. And remember you can always check my schedule at the website www.bobbymitchellmusic.com if ya like. And if you do then sign my guestbook and say Hi!
Later,
Bobby Mitchell

Aug. News Letter sent out to folks on my email list - August 9, 2010

I know it's been a long time since you've heard from me and I apologize for that. Some of you folks have never even received anything from me. I reckon I'm just lazy.
I got my tail chewed on from a friend for not letting people know about my up coming gigs. So I'm gonna try to start keeping you updated once a month even if I don’t have a public gig going on that month. I’ll just say Hi!
So here we go:
8-25: Acoustic Duo, myself & Robert Bonin will be playing the Hard Times Soup and Music Kitchen at JP’s Hops House, open to public, no cover.
8-27: Alvin Opry, I’ll be singing some old classic country hits with the Alvin Opry Band, open to public and there is a cover charge.
There is also a few Private Partys but since you can't attend I won't bore ya with them.
I also have added a few videos to the website. They are on the "links page" at the bottom. It's the only way I could figure out how to add videos? I'm not much of a computor geek!
For more details on these gigs or any future things I have going on check out my website’s calendar. While your there sign my guest book and say Howdy or anything you want to.
Thanks and I’ll holler at ya next month.

Redneck Summer Fun - July 18, 2010

Howdy Folks Bobby Mitchell here,
Hope all is goin fine for y'all, it's been a hot and rainey one here in TX. or atleast here in my home town. Been playing a few gigs here local. Played for the Silverado Senior Living folks for their 4th of July party a few weeks ago. Of course I didn't play too many originals mostly old classic covers. And then "The Alvin Opey" also not too long ago. That was fun too. I really like playing the old cover songs, cuz that's the songs I was raised up on. Ya gotta remember my Ma used to carry a picture of Bill Anderson in her purse. Not any of my dad, sisters or me, but Ole Whispering Bill. Now if that ain't country I'll Kiss Your A_ _.
And then a couple of Private Party's; one in paticular was my cousin Mark Burton's 40th party. I like then family reunion type partys, it takes me back to the Good Ole Days.

Any who just thought I'd touch base with y'all. I do have a few more gigs line up before Hunting Season. And a few during, but most of Hunt Season is for just that "Hunting"
Later and Y'all stay Cool.

Texas Summer Is Here - June 1, 2010

Wow, I'm sorry but it's been almost a year since put anything down here in the News area. I reckon it's just that I'm a lil lazy when it come down to writing anything cept songs.
Anywho just to let ya konw, I''m still out there playing old country music and performing HillBillyBob stuff.(adult comedy) although it's been kinda slow this year.
But while it has been slow it gave me a chance to catch up on some work out in Terlingua and up on Mitchell's Mt.. Now that it's a lil warm out there, I guess I'll try to git some bookings and do what I do best.
Later,
Bobby Mitchell
ps don't forget to get those Hurricane packages ready cuz you never know when Hurricane or Himacane may stir up.

Huntin Season is upon us - August 20, 2009

I know it's been awhile since I've posted any new news but I've been really really busy. Man I tell ya the music business has been really good to me this year so far: I'm bout wore out. But I know when that ole North wind starts blowin next month I'll git a second wind and be ready to finish out the rest of the year. Sometimes in Oct. or Nov. my necks gonna start swellin up and I'll be as happy as a Lark.
Met a lot of good folks this year and look forward to going back to their bars, clubs, honky tonks and backyards to entertaining them again.
Gotta go clean my shot_gun cuz Dove season is coming real soon.
Hope you all had a Great Summer and talk to ya soon!

West Texas Tour - April 10, 2009

Well just wanted to let you folks know that if you ever go out to the Big Bend Area, well here's what ya do.
First: you arrive in Alpine TX. home of Sul Ross University and go check out "Harry's Tinaja" have a few cold ones and listen to one of the many pickers or bands that come and go almost I'd say Every Day.
Second: When the sun settles down head out West a few miles of Alpine and go see the Marfa Ghost Lights.
Third: Next morning you take Hwy 118 South towards Study Butte/Terlingua and then just follow you nose.
I started out with 2 gigs when I left home and ended up with 9gigs and 2open mics.
A big Thanks go's out to Zano and Melinda from the American Legion Terlingua Post 653, and to Shirley and Anna at the High Sirrea Bar & Grill at the Ghost Town. This is a very good Bar & Grill and a hotel. "The El Dorado" hotel is right there so you can stay and travel the Big Bend Area and then at the end of the day enjoy some Great Food and usually good entertaiment.(I mean they have music every now and then) but the Herman (the owner) told me that I am welcome to play there any time I out there in the area. And you know me I love to play music.
Any_who, A Big Bend Thanks to all out there who made my trip Wonderful.
Now back to working the East Texas Area. Dates are starting to fill so if any of ya'll want Bobby Mitchell Music than ya better start booking soon.
Later,
Bobby Mitchll

Wide Open Mic - March 4, 2009

The "Wide Open Mic" at JP McNasty's has been a Hoot every Thursday night. All you pickers come on out it is a real diverse crowd, but they Love my old country classic's I sing.
Just got me a new Fender Telecaster today. It is the first electric guitar I have had in 29 years. Now I just need to take some lessons from my buddy Clyde S. Cuz Clyde is, I think, one of the best Guitar Players in the Houston Area.

Gigs have been comming in lately, which is GOOD, should be posting them soon.
Got me a "Facebook" page now check it out. facebook.com/bobbymitchell
Also be playing out at the Texas Road House resturant out in Rosenberg as long as the weather holds out. (It's outside on the patio)

Up date - October 7, 2008

Hey folks someday I'll make enough $$$$ to have somebody keep this site up to date all the time, but for now I'll just have to do it when I can. It's
been a busy Spring and Summer. Had a lot of dates come in, spent a lot of time on the road. I love the road. Had a Great time at the Texas Music Fest. Thanks to the "Uncle Bill Roach Band" for the invite. It was said that last year 2007 that I was one of the winners of the songwriter of the day to preform that year. COOL!!!!
I'm gittin ready for huntin season. Just got back from Mitchell's Mt. where I put out the corn to fattin up them there deer so I can Shoot'em!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got a few honey doo's to do here around the house before I head back up there for the season. You know I'll be stopping by Luckenbach Texas and picking under the old oak trees during my breaks from sittin in the blind. I'm also thinking bout going over to Bandara and shooting the breeze with ole Arky at the Silver Dollar Saloon too. Then of corse later in Nov. when I'm out in Terlingua, I'm a gonna give ole Harry at "Harry's Tinaja" a call and book a night or two there. Man with all this here music playing, I sure hope I can find the time to bag a big'en. I have a few deer camp gigs also just can't thingk of them right this moment but they pay good, specially the huntin part.
Well gota go for now. I promise to git back to ya real soon with some dates as to when and where I'll be this HUNTIN SEASON.

Headin West - April 2, 2008

After a Lo____ng month of jury duty I need to go to the desert to git a lil R&R.
Yep me and my lil Darlin Darlin will head out West to Terlingua Ranch (Big Bend country) to soak up some desert sun and dust.
Then as soon as we git back we're gonna have a hum_dinger of a show in Houston at JP Hop's House (check out the calander)
Ain't been playing many public gigs lately mostly private parties, but hope to change that soon. I'm startin a major booking campaign for this here Summer commin up cuz it's gonna be a HOT one and I need the comfort of a dark, cool bar to shooth my inner sprit.(does that make since?)

Happy New Year - January 2, 2008

Well it's been a while. I've been up on Mitchell's Mt. huntin and cleaning my gun, huntin and drinkin, huntin and -- well you git the picture. Now it's time for me to git to work. I took most of the last half of 2007 off cuz I needed the vacation from all those long hours at the ex-job. The recording project never came to life; so now I'm gonna make my job entertaining the public live, unless somebody out there wont's to produce a new record.
Me and back up Bert (that's my lead player and partner in music Robert Bonin) have been working all of last year to bring you a new sound. Or at least to a lot of you, cuz we're playing not just orignals now but also a whole lot of oldies.
We are Bob & Bob the
"Acoustic Duo".

Oh yeah, HillBillyBob is still alive and well, just in case any of you adults need to laugh!
Keep comming back cuz I'll be doing a whole lotta new things this year.

Fall is in the air - September 4, 2007

Welcome to September folks my fav-o-rite time of the year. That's Sept. to Dec. cuz this is Huntin Season!
Just got back from Meridian Tx. and the "Texas Music Festival." Man if you didn't make it, you missed out BIG TIME! It was kinda like Smokey Wilson's PIP. Had a Great Time and met a lot of fine folks. Thanks to "The Uncle Bill Roach Band" for havin me and to Christina and all of her Volunteers for the hard work they did for this Cancer Research fund raiser. If you would like to still contribute then go to www.theunclebillroachband.com
Let me see, Oh yea ( I'm still a lil buzzed from the weekend) Thanks to the fine folks at "Texas/Reddirt web blog for the fantisic "Artist of the Month" the first week of July. This is a really cool site go check'em out. Note the address below from June's news.
Last month was a busy road trip month. Started out in Louisiana at a Private party; then two short weeks later off to Lake Conroe for the "Local Finals" for the Colgate Country Showdown presented by KVST radio. Please tune in to this radio station "www.kstarcountry.com" cuz they play TEXAS Music.
Next the Hill Country. My son Robert and I went to the Mt. did a lil work and then on to Luckenbach Tx. This was Robert's first time to this musical town, (pop. "3" I belive). We played in the Beer Joint for a couple of hours then took a break and sat in, on the picken circle later that evening. As usual met some fine folks and some might awesome songwriters.
Well, the leaf's are starting to fall so I reckon Fall is in the air plus my neck is startin to swell. I'll still be booking gigs BUT I plan on doing a whole lota HUNTIN.
Damn that sound good so I better git going and write a song about that before it leaves me, remember I'm suffering from a 3 gig weekend.

Last month I helped Lindsay Rash (that's my songwritten bud) out with running sound for the My Texas Music Awards After Party up in Jefferson TX. It was a blast; saw many folks I ain't seen in a while and met many others. And by the way if ya ever need any sound enginering or recording give Lindsay a call. You can reach him at the R_Band link on my links to others page.
This past Friday we had a hell of a time down in Galveston. (check past gigs on calendar page) It was really a Great mix with me, Willie and Larry. If you didn't make it, well what can I say except You Missed It!
Last night at the "Houston Open Mic Awards" held at JP's Hops House in of course Houston, was really a Great time. I left with the Funny Bone Award got to see many folks I haven't seen in a Lo----ng time. Thanks Jim and Pam for having a Songwriters Bar.(check out their place at jphopshouse.com)
Well gotta go for now keep checking the calendar for new dates cuz it's starting to git hot out side and when that happens I gotta stay inside and drink a lotta Beer. So that means I'll be working a bunch in a bar on stage.
